Still stinging from yesterday or just can't read in context?

In his prime, of course.

When Juve had to set up the rest of the midfield to protect him, in his the last couple years, I say probably not.

You've got to be on a wind up?

Teams are dedicating more players to mark and cover him.

It's up to him and particularly the other players to take advantage of this. Once everyone is fit, good luck to anyone who wants to put two o three players on Payet with the likes of Sakho, Lanzini, Antonio, Valencia, Emenike et al running about with the extra space created.

I just hope he's not still feeling discomfort from the McCarthy injury.

Why would a release clause safeguard the club? If he doesn't have a release clause then we can say he's not for sale at any price, or demand what we want.

I think the owners are sensible enough not to declare what the pay increase will be and bring him up to. It's pure speculation. I've already said it but why would they want to set a benchmark wage for new signings. I'm more sure the wage restriction rules not if the jump was this high surely that would have a real
Impact on any other business we could do

Struggled last few games, I think teams are just trying to crowd him out of the game. Lazini and Diafra coming back should take some of the attention away from him and allow a bit more space.

Great news.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
my second point was that people are happy to believe he was earning (rumoured) 65k a week but wont believe he will be earning (rumoured) 125k.

Trev

We would put one in now because a) he's attracting a lot of interest, and b) he wants more money, and something to safeguard the club's position would be first base as a bargaining tool.

We will want a position whereby if he does go, we can make a major financial killing for him. Just upping his pay to (100K?) won't keep him, he could easily double that at Man City etc.

And he's 29... he'd be a fool not to grab every bean he can whilst he's still playing, logically.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
my original point was that it is inevitable that some idiots will use the pay rise againts him unless he recovers his previous form.

Trevor B 11:18 Fri Feb 12
Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
Well of course he has had a pay rise, not get sure what your point is though. It seems to be regarded that he was a bit of a steal on both fee and wages when he bagged him, and rightly so they have tied him up to a new deal. His wages aren't in the public domain though. Did you expect the club not to announce that he'd signed a new deal?

so you are happy to believe he was on the (rumoured) 65k a week, but the (rumoured) 125k is unbelievable??

pretty sure he would have got an increase, whatever the amount. if he got a decrease he needs a new agent.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
Exactly Trevor, people will speculate and lazy journalism suggests a doubling of his wages. If he was on £65k (as rumoured) then this would seem comparatively low to ACs salary and I'd imagine they'd just want to bring him in line with the highest earners. That rather than make a rod for their own back and create a new benchmark wage for all these superstars that will be joining in the summer.

His original deal didn't contain a release clause, so Sullivan said when he signed, so I don't see why we would put one in now.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
Hopefully we have used the new deal to put in a ridiculously high release clause, and some of the dosh will be enhancements for appearances and performances too. We should have learned by now that if you throw huge basics at players with no strings, pretty soon they are 'injured' and start taking you for a walk.

Be interesting to see what we have to throw into the ring to get Lanzini now - I know what I'd do if I was him... if you take off your claret n blue specs, he's at least as important to the side.

But his wages aren't in the public domain, are they? The club haven't confirmed what he earns.

Re: Ohhh dear here we go..Payets agent demands £125k per week... Signs new contract
for one week yes.
i dont have an issue with what he earns.......... but putting it all the the pulic domain means that the idiot fans we have will hold it against him if he doesnt win every game by himself.

West Ham no longer a selling club as Payet becomes eighth long-term believer

West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan posted an open letter on the club’s official website to welcome Dimtri Payet’s new five-year deal.

The Irons have pledged to retain all of their key men as they prepare to move into the Olympic Stadium from the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

“In line with our normal policy, we review the contracts of players who are doing exceptionally well for the club and reward and extend them when the opportunity arises,” Sullivan said.

“Up to now, Dimitri has been our star player this season and to reward him and to show the supporters our unwavering commitment to building a team we can all be immensely proud of, the board has awarded him an improved and extended contract until 2021.

“His technical ability, his ball skills, his strength, his goals, his assists and his attitude have all combined to give us one of the most exhilarating players I have seen in a West Ham shirt in many, many years.

“I have been watching West Ham since the early 1960s and have seen some fantastic footballers in claret and blue - Trevor Brooking, Alan Devonshire, Paolo Di Canio, Carlos Tevez among them - and Dimi has the talent to be considered among the very best.

“Of course, even more exciting is that Dimi’s best in a West Ham shirt is still to come. Just imagine what we can achieve, with him in the team and the club moving into a fantastic new 54,000-capacity stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this summer.

“Before then, we have 13 Barclays Premier League games to play and are in a good position, sixth in the table and with a chance of qualifying for Europe.

“Today’s news means Mark Noble, Winston Reid, Diafra Sakho, Aaron Cresswell, James Tomkins, Adrian, James Collins and now Dimi have all signed new long-term contracts in the past year - all confirmation that we want to keep our best players here for as long as possible.”
